MATCH PREVIEW | Rhinos aim to round off Super 4s in style

The final game of the Betfred Women's Super League Super 4s sees Leeds Rhinos and St Helens meet at AMT Headingley this Saturday as the semi-finals approach, kick off 2pm.

Lois Forsell's side are already confirmed as hosts for the 2026 semi-final but look to get back to winning ways after losing their last three matches against York and Wigan. Victory over the Valkyrie last Sunday saw St Helens pull themselves into the fight for the final semi-final spot as they need a win this weekend and a York defeat to potentially feature in this year's finale.

Here's your match preview:

Opposition

As an era ends with the retirements of Jodie Cunningham, Zoe Harris and Emily Rudge at the end of the year, St Helens have pulled themselves into the Grand Final conversation to give their trio a potentially perfect send-off.

A four-point win over York last weekend saw Katie Mottershead and former Rhino Shona Hoyle-Holdsworth cross for tries, plus an important penalty goal from Faye Gaskin, ensuring Derek Hardman's side overturned a defeat to the same opposition at the end of August and moved the two clubs level on league points heading into the Super 4s finale. It was also Saints' only win of the Super 4s, having lost both games against Wigan and one fixture against Leeds so far.

As they go in search of a second-ever title after finishing the last two campaigns as runners-up in the Grand Final, Saints have already watched their opponents lift silverware after a strong Challenge Cup campaign ended in a 54-6 loss to the dominant Warriors at Wembley back in May. Focusing on the league, the first seven rounds of the regular season saw the club lose only twice as they set up a strong foundation to hit the Super 4s. Opening with a 42-6 win over Barrow, they added results against York, Huddersfield, Featherstone and Leigh to finish two points behind Leeds and four adrift of Wigan, but the Super 4s have been a contrasting campaign as they lost four consecutive fixtures at the hands of the Warriors, Rhinos and Valkyrie before last Sunday's result.

One of the success stories of the season has been the continued breakout of winger Dani McGifford, who is chasing her 2025 try tally of 22 as she has 16 so far in 2026. She is nine tries ahead of the next-best try scorer of the club (Vicky Whitfield, Rachael Woosey, and Olivia Leach have seven tries), and has been one of the more consistent names in the backline whilst Phoebe Hook and Leah Burke have been out injured. Whitfield is amongst a cohort of England potentials to head to the World Cup later next month, as the prop has been one of five ever-presents across both the league and cup competitions. She's in a pack that faces a rebuild in 2027 with the departures of Cunningham and Rudge, who have been with the club since its inaugural season in 2018.

Now on their way to AMT Headingley for the final game of this year's Super 4s, Saints know that a win over Leeds would not only end a run of two defeats at the hands of the Rhinos this year, but would confirm a return trip in a week to battle for a place in the Grand Final alongside Wigan Warriors. Should they lose, though, eyes will turn to York, who could only go below Saints in the table by losing by 40+ points against Wigan currently.
